Hello Everyone:

Are there any places to fly RC gliders (or electric airplanes) in Marin (aside from Airplane Hill in Mt. Tam State Park?)

I have a drone (Phantom 3 Advanced) and I have my Part 107 certificate, but I am looking for something relaxing to do for fun, so I thought a glider might be nice.

It just seems like the places to fly around Marin (ans Southern Sonoma County) are few and far between.

Also, if someone has suggestions on what glider might be good for someone new to RC winged aircraft, I would appreciate that. The reason I am drawn to gliders is because they are quiet (and my drone is loud) and because I think they would have a pretty long flight time (relatively speaking), and my drone has a short flight time.

Thanks in advance.

the Cheese Factory in Novato has good thermals

check with Mike at Dollhouse & Trains 415 883 0388 x 108 about how to get there

flew there in 1980 using Hobie Hawk and hi-start

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I am looking into the Radian Micro. Looks good.

I believe the Cheese Factory is the same as the French Cheese Company?

Do they allow people to fly on their property???

Thanks again,

I learned to fly R/C at Marin R/C club

they had a field at hardstand 8 at Hamilton airfield back in 1975

flew with Walt Gunning of San Anselmo and Sam Crawford during the Kraft radio signature era

Steve Putnam had a Dirty Birdy with 100 gallons of fuel used on it using the Kraft .61 engine

my first r/c power plane was the Astrocat
www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?1091468-Astro-cat

bought it for $20 hanging up in a hobby store Petit paint shop in Santa Clara when Hobbies Galore was in business

trained all the way-up to Dave Platt Spitfire at Marin R/C

across the road to the field, was a Rod & Gun club where you can shoot pheasant also
